Lorraine (Nyhus) Denning, age 95, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2018, at the Chippewa Manor Nursing Home in Chippewa Falls, surrounded by family.

Lorraine was born July 2, 1922, to Arthur and Serena (Flackey) Nyhus in Eau Claire, WI. She grew up in the Boot Lake area of Chippewa County. She attended Eagleton Grade School and graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1939.

In April of 1941 she married to Gerald Denning. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 1991. Lorraine was the mother of 14 children. She was the hardest worker ever. While raising her children she worked at the Chippewa Woolen Mill and Chippewa Shoe Factory. She cared for her husband after he suffered a stroke until his death in 1992.

She loved her family and the get-together. She was an avid WI sport teams fan and enjoyed NASCAR. She loved playing cribbage and played with siblings eight days before she passed away. In the early 80’s she traveled to Norway with her dad and visited ancestral places of interest. She was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. Mom played the organ at St. John’s Lutheran Church well into her 80’s.

She is survived by 12 children: seven sons, Wayne (Kari) of Eau Claire, Ted (Barb), Joe (Kris), Jim (Sandy) of Chippewa Falls, Jeff (Mary Kay), John (Teresa) of Sheboygan, and Scott (Vickie) of Hudson; five daughters, Nancy (Lawrence) Rothbauer of Cadott, Lou Ann Berg, Dana (Wayne) Boos of Chippewa Falls, Elytta (Mark) Durkee and Mary Denning of Sun Prairie; 33 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the St. Joseph’s Hospital’s Palliative and Hospice programs, Chippewa Manor nursing home, Pastor Philip Pitt and her very special neighbors Joe and Bede Woolever.
