Harold J. "John" Bergeron, age 88 of Eau Claire passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Bloomer, WI.

John was born October 11, 1929, in Mattoon, WI to Charles E. and Mildred E. (Little) Bergeron.  He graduated from Antigo High School and received a Business Degree from Green Bay Business College. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War while stationed in the Pacific Theater.  He married Phyllis Jean Space on December 8, 1951, in Antigo, WI.  John owned and operated several retail businesses in downtown Eau Claire.  He also worked as a realtor. 

John is survived by his wife Phyllis, children: Cindy (Al) Scherwinski, Lisa (Ron) Scherwinski, Michelle (Mike) Howerton, Lori (Brad) Sweitzer, ten grandchildren:  Chris, Jeff, Ben Scherwinski, Chad and Garrett Scherwinski, Alissa Haut, Rebecca Johnson, Nevada, Beau, and Gabrielle Sweitzer and one great-granddaughter Isabel Michelle Johnson.  John was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and 2 sisters.

John was an avid sports fan and supporter of local sports.  He was a lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee baseball, and the Wisconsin Badgers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in John’s name to Hallie Youth Baseball or a charity or organization of the donor’s choice. 

Memorial service will take place at 11 am on Monday, December 18, 2017, at Hulke Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Eau Claire.  Memorial visitation will take place at the funeral home Monday morning from 9:30 am until the time of service.  Inurnment with military honors will take place at a later date at Forest View Cemetery in Gleason, WI.
