 Mildred “Millie” Krenz

Mildred “Millie” Clara Krenz, 91, of Barron, WI, formerly of Hamburg, WI, passed away peacefully in her apartment Saturday, September 16, 2017.  Millie was born January 5, 1926 in the town of Hamburg to the late Gustave and Theresa (Plautz) Kottke.  She grew up on the Kottke family dairy farm.  She met and married the love of her life the late Eddie Krenz on September 10, 1948 and joined him on the Krenz dairy farm in the town of Hamburg.  Millie was a very hard worker and she worked side by side with Eddie.  Along with farming, every spring they spent countless hours cooking Maple Syrup.  Winters also included many hours in the woods making firewood, not only for syrup cooking but also for heating the farm house.  On the farm she was always compassionate about the animals, especially the farm dogs, cats and the many parakeets they had.  Millie was very passionate about her large garden and flower beds.  Her gladioli were always spectacular.  She took great pride in keeping the large lawn looking good.  When Eddie died in 1968 after nineteen years of marriage Millie along with her three children continued to farm.  Her children were always her top priority.  She valued education and encouraged each of them to further their education after they graduated from High School.  Millie’s unfailing relationship with the Lord helped her through many tough times in her life.  When the church was built she unselfishly helped with some of the very heavy cement work.  Millie was a very proud member of the St John’s Lutheran Church Ladies Aid in Hamburg and she was always anxious to attend bible study.  She was active with the Maple Grove PTA and was very happy to help with the Hamburg Happy Hearts 4-H Club.

Millie moved to Barron eleven years ago and was greatly loved by the residents at her apartment and other friends in the community.  She made many friends quickly and will be greatly missed.  Everyone enjoyed her quick wit and great sense of humor.  She continued to work hard by walking, lifting her weights and doing exercises to stay healthy and stay in her apartment.  She loved to listen to her bible, watch TBN, knit, do word puzzles, and play cards with other residents.  She always enjoyed the Saturday Bingo games.  She also enjoyed the week long visits from her sister Arlene and was able to make four trips to Phoenix, Arizona.  Her constant companion has been her sweet kitty Precious who was always on her lap.

Survivors include two daughters Dianne (Andy) Talsma of Somerset and their children Edith and Tobias, her daughter Susan (Glen) Steffen of Bloomer, her son Bruce (Eileen) Krenz of Hamburg and her sister and dearest friend Arlene Helke of Wausau.  She is preceded in death by her husband Eddie, her parents Gustave and Theresa Kottke, an infant sibling, six brothers, Reinhold, Edward, Orlin, Elgart, Roy and Harold, and  five sisters, Elsie Lehman, Rosie Kuehn, Adeline Punke, Dorothy Zielazowski and Eldora Eisenhut.  Millie will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m., Saturday September 23, 2017 at St John’s Lutheran Church, 486 Co Rd F, Hamburg, WI 54411 with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the service.  Pastor Joel Danner will officiate.  Burial will be at St John’s Cemetery.
