Rolf Anders Utegaard, 68, of Eau Claire passed away Saturday, February 4, 2017, at Mayo Health Care in Eau Claire due to complications after suffering a heart attack at home.

Rolf was born on April 9, 1948, to Alf Odin and Marie Sutter Utegaard in Eau Claire. He grew up in Eau Claire and attended Eau Claire area schools Mt. Washington Elementary, Eau Claire Jr. High and graduated from E.C. Memorial High School in 1966.  He went on to attend UWEC. In 1969 Rolf was united in marriage to Sharon Berndt and celebrated 47 wonderful years on Nov, 1 2016.

As a young adult, Rolf enjoyed playing basketball at the YMCA and football during JR, and Senior high school. He was also very proud of his service to the Episcopal Church as an acolyte at the altar. He enjoyed his summers at Camp Manitou at the cabin named NASTAPOCO with Jeff Ellenson.  As an adult Rolf enjoyed many years of service with the Master Gardeners, belonging to the very first class from Eau Claire County. He served his community serving on the Landmarks Commission, Waterways & Parks Commission, and Invasive Plants Association of Wisconsin. In 2011 he received the Distinguished Fair Service award for dedicated service which benefited youth and families at Eau Claire County Fair.

Rolf owned and operated Eau Claire Lawn Care Service for 20 years making many friends in the community. He also worked for Hutchinson Technology, Chippewa Valley Museum and Director for the Eau Claire County Expo Center for 13 years. Rolf was hard working and dedicated to any job he pursued. He loved football, basketball, and baseball supporting his favorite teams to include WI Badgers, Green Bay Packers, and the Brewers.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sharon Utegaard; mother-in-law, Evelyn Berndt; Brother-in-law, Matt Meinholz; nephew, Odin Meinholz; faithful friend, Verlyn Arneson; and crazy fur balls, Archie and Huey.

Rolf was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ann Marie Meinholz; and father-in-law, Ken Berndt.

A celebration of Rolf’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2017, at Christ Church Cathedral, 510 S. Farwell St. Eau Claire, with Father Ken Green officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday.  A private burial will take place in the spring of 2017 at Lutheran Church Cemetery in Eau Claire.

Thank you to all the Doctors and wonderful nurses at Mayo Clinic Health System who served Rolf so well. Special thanks to the CCU staff and MCHS Hospice. Everyone was so gracious, gentle and caring.
