Evelyn R. Gibson, age 90 of Elmwood died Monday, November 10, 2008 at the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home in Elmwood.

Evelyn was born on April 13, 1918 in Eau Galle. She was the daughter of Adam and Fannie (Hoyt) DeLong. She grew up in the Eau Galle community. Evelyn married Robert Gibson October 12, 1935 at the Ono Parsonage, Grange Hall, rural Plum City. After marriage, they lived in Goodhue, MN for a few years. They returned to the Rock Elm area where they farmed at several locations around Rock Elm before purchasing their own farm Northwest of Rock Elm. They farmed until retiring and moved to Plum City for a couple of years, after which, they returned to Elmwood where she remained the rest of her life. Evelyn has been a resident of the Heritage of Elmwood for the past two years.

Evelyn has been an active member of the Rock Elm United Methodist Church for over 50 years.

Evelyn is survived by one daughter, Wanda (Joseph) Traynor of Plum City, a daughter-in-law, Marcella Gibson of Menomonie; 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, one sister Esther Lindstrom of Durand, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bob 1992, one son, Donald 1980, two granddaughters, Debbie and Diane, a son-in-law, Wayne Larson, five brothers, Claude, Shirley, Lyle, Cyril and Archie, three sisters, Hazel Hall, Lola Schultz and an infant sister Edith.


Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, November 14, 2008 at the United Methodist Church- Rock Elm, rural Elmwood. Rev. Charles DeMaris will officiate. Burial will be in the Poplar Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 PM Thursday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Elmwood and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
