Katie Haugen, age 35, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018 at home with her husband, parents, and siblings by her side.  

She was born in New Prague, MN on December 10, 1982, to Ray and Trudy Schueth. Katie graduated high school from Lourdes in Rochester, MN in 2001. She went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary and Special Education from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 2006. On December 11, 2010, Katie married Keith Haugen. Together they have a three year old son, Hudson. Katie was a Special Education Teacher at Sam Davey Elementary in the Eau Claire School District for 10 years. While teaching, she also coached Special Olympics and provided respite care for children with disabilities. Katie's world revolved around her little man, whom she lovingly referred to as "H". Together they went on many adventures while she taught Hudson about the world around him. Some of her favorite things to do were spending time with her family and friends and focusing on her passion for health and fitness. She ran multiple long-distance races, including half marathons, 10k's, and 5k's. She inspired others to be the best version of themselves with her gentle encouragement, positivity, and unwavering support.

 

She is survived by her husband of 7 years, Keith; beloved son, Hudson; father and mother, Ray and Trudy Schueth; siblings, Brad (Sam) Schueth, Eric (Megan) Schueth, and twin sister, Kari (Jaime) Zavala; nephews, Oliver, Wyatt, and Alexander; nieces, Charlotte and Harper; maternal grandparents, Virgil and Marcella Mourlam and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Katie spent the past year inspiring all she came in contact with, with her grace and strength as she fought Metastatic Melanoma.

 

A service will be held at Peace Lutheran Church of Pigeon Falls in Pigeon Falls, WI on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. 

 

A celebration of life will be on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at the Metropolis Resort and Conference Center in Eau Claire, WI from 3-7 p.m.

 

In lieu of flowers, Katie’s wishes were for memorials to be made out to Sam Davey PTA as a thank you for all the support the Sam Davey community gave Katie and her family throughout her fight. Checks can be mailed to 3000 Starr Avenue, Eau Claire, WI 54703.
