Ronald L. Deardorff, 90, of Altoona, passed away at the Tomah VA Medical Center on November 7, 2017.

Ron was born on January 15, 1927 in Eau Claire, WI to Irvin and Mabel (Hoover) Deardorff. He was the oldest of four children. Ron was active in sports during high school.  He earned the nickname “Speed” on the football field. Ron also played the tuba for the high school band and graduated from Durand High School. In 1944 Ron enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Philippines during WWII. Ron was discharged from the Navy in 1947 and he married Burdell Bloom. The couple had six children (they later divorced). Ron then attended barber school and barbered over sixty years.  He owned Ron’s Barber Shop in Altoona until the time of his death.

Ron lived a very active life, he was never one to sit still for long. He loved gardening, fishing, hunting, boating, camping, motorcycling, four-wheeling and traveling to Mexico, Ron was also an avid Packer fan. Ron loved playing cards in the mornings before work. Ron also loved competing in cribbage tournaments in the area. He had several perfect hands in his lifetime. At age 80, he was still riding a small motorcycle on city streets.  He also provided haircuts to retirees at the L.E. Phillips Senior Center.

Ron is survived by six children, daughters, Colleen Wilke and Linda (Tim) Nyseth of Eau Claire; sons, Ron (Sky) of Eau Claire, Dan (Mary) of Gordon, Bob of Birchwood, and Dick of Opelika, AL; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Lois (Cam) Thomas of Eau Claire, Joyce (Jim) Andress of Coon Rapids, MN, and a brother, Dale (Dianne) of Eau Claire.

His parents and ex-wife preceded him in death.

A special thank you to Dr. Setla, the Mayo Clinic Hospice Care Team, and the Tomah VA Medical Center for the excellent care that was provided to him.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 20, 217, at Eau Claire Wesleyan Church, 2405 Keith Street. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will take place in Rock Falls Cemetery at a later date.

Chippewa Valley Cremation Services is serving the family.
