Thomas Edward (Tom) Wanzong, age 87, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2017, after a short stay at the New Glarus Home, under the guidance of the Monroe Clinic Hospice, in New Glarus, Wisconsin.

Tom was born on July 26, 1930, to Jacob and Edna Wanzong in St. Paul, Minnesota, the middle of two siblings.  Tom was a proud U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War on board the USS Midway aircraft carrier.  He met his wife of 57 years, Mary (Frederick) Wanzong, at the 1958 St. Paul Winter Carnival, and was married on June 13, 1959, at Saint Stanislaus church. They moved to Eau Claire, Wisconsin in November of 1959, where Tom managed Soderberg Optical Service Inc. for nearly 40 years.  Together, they had four children.

Tom is survived by his four children, Patrick (Darcy) Wanzong, of Madison, WI, Catherine (Ronald) Kellen of Madison, WI, Steven (Krista) Wanzong of Verona, WI, and Karen (Alan) Winegar of Waukesha, WI., grandchildren Meagan and Leah Wanzong, Jacob Kellen, Grace Wanzong, and Jordan and Jack Winegar, other nieces, nephews and many cousins.  Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, parents, Jacob and Edna Wanzong, sister Mildred Wanzong, and brother, Robert Wanzong.

A Memorial Mass will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1712 Highland Avenue, Eau Claire, WI 54701.  Father Don Meuret will officiate. Visitation will take place at the church on Saturday morning (November 18, 2017) from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will take place at 10 am on Monday, November 20, 2017, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Visitation

Visitation will take place at the church on Saturday morning (November 18, 2017) from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
