Oliver H. Cota, Jr., age 79, of Fall Creek passed away Tuesday, October 31 at Care Partners in Altoona with family members at his side. 

Oliver, also known as Jr., was born on August 18, 1938 in Eau Claire to Erna and Oliver Cota, Sr..  He grew up on the family farm with his two sisters Gladys and MaryAnne.  He graduated from Fall Creek High School in 1956. 

He later married Roberta Synstad on October 15, 1960 at Modena Lutheran Church in Modena, WI.  Oliver and Roberta enjoyed 57 loving years together before Oliver was called home to heaven.

Oliver worked as a carpenter for Haselwander Brothers for many years.  He was also a church organist at St. Matthew’s for 52 years and was Sunday School superintendent.  Oliver worked as a custodian for Fall Creek Schools and St. Matthew’s Church in Eau Claire in his later years.

During his retirement years, Oliver and Roberta enjoyed traveling with family and friends. Some of his favorite trips were to Branson, Missouri, Nashville, Tennessee, and Niagara Falls.  He also looked forward to the New Year’s Eve party that they went to every year. Oliver enjoyed going to all of his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting and music events, even in the late stages of his health.

Oliver is survived by his wife Roberta; his 8 children Christine (Allen) Hanson of Eleva; Jim (Shannon) Cota of Eleva; Coleen (John) Frauenhoff of Aurora, IL; Mark (Juli) Cota of Red Wing, MN;  Paul Cota of Soldiers Grove, WI; Rich (Sarah) of Woodville, WI; Cheryl (Greg) Hanson of Eau Claire; Bruce (Tonya) Cota of Chippewa Falls; sister Gladys (Ewald) Messerschmidt) of Fall Creek; MaryAnne Shafer of Morristown, Minnesota; sisters-in-laws Gloria Letts of Mondovi; Betty Jane (Tom) Patrie of East Troy; Carol (John) Iverson of Red Wing, MN and 17 grandchildren Sam and Gretchen Hanson; Dustin and Adam Cota; Ali Quarberg; Lucas and Carley Frauenhoff; Mikayla, McKenzie, and Zach Cota; Nick,Hailey, and Mason Cota; Noah, Olivia, and Jonah Hanson; Jace Cota; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Oliver in death were his in-laws Mellwood and Alice Synstad, his parents Oliver (Sr.) and Erna Cota, and his granddaughter Mariah Hanson. 

A special thank you to Mayo Hospice and Care Partners of Altoona for their wonderful care and thoughtfulness. 

Memorials may be given in Oliver’s name to St. Paul’s Church or Fall Creek High School music department.

Funeral service will take place at 11 am on Monday, November 6, 2017 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 721 S. State Street, Fall Creek, WI 54742 in Fall Creek with Pastor Carlton Kangas officiating.  Visitation will take place on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Hulke Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Eau Claire from 3-7 pm and at the church Monday morning an hour prior to the service.  Burial will take place in the Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington immediately following the funeral service.

Visitation will take place at Hulke Family Funeral Home on Sunday, November 5, 2017 from 3-7 pm and at the church on Monday, November 6, 2017 from 10 am until the time of service.
