Hazel A. Kilness

Hazel A. Kilness

October 29, 2017

Hazel A. Kilness 92, of Eau Claire passed away on Sunday October 29, 2017 at Orchard Hills Assisted Living in Eau Claire.

She was born on December 1, 1924 to George Jr. and Clara (Bucholtz) Hager in Buffalo City, WI.

While growing up on the farm in Hutchinson Valley in Buffalo County, her love of horses developed as she watched her dad’s work horses. It is evident that her love of flowers came from her mother, who always had a yard full. During World War II, she worked in Mondovi at the candy counter in the Farmer's Store. In 1948, she married Homer Kilness and moved to Eau Claire. In recent years she resided at Orchard Hills Assisted Living in Eau Claire.

In the summer you could always find her outside tending her huge garden full of flowers and vegetables. She was always happy to see her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren and looked forward to the next family picnic. In her spare time, she loved to reupholster furniture and make draperies. After many years of staying home and raising her children, she went to work in the kitchen at the Syverson Home. While there, she continued her love of baking for many years. She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Sharon Thobaben, Mondovi, WI; Larry Kilness (Brenda Myren) Mondovi, WI; Dan (Chris) Kilness, Walla Walla, WA; Mike Kilness, Eau Claire, WI; Tim (Ruth) Kilness, Chippewa Falls, WI; Randy (Ruth) Kilness, Eau Claire, WI; Lori Kilness, Wausau, WI.

Grandchildren: Greg (Pam Dewitt) Hansen, Sara (Jon) Goldstein, Nathan (Lynae Ludwig) Kilness; Matthew Kilness; Dustin Kilness, Benjamin (Jamie Utphall) Kilness, Andrew Kilness, Mackenzie Kilness. Her nine great-grandchildren; Sister, Darlene (Richard) Kastner, Richmond, TX. Sisters-in-law, Ruth Eide, Strum, WI, Doris Hager, Altoona, WI and Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law, Sherman and Janice Kilness, Damascus, Oregon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Kilness, her parents, sisters: Ruth Haigh, Pearl Hager, and Lois Rothering and her brothers: Glen Hager, Laverne Hager, Blaise Hager and Lee Hager.

A special thank you goes out to the staff of Orchard Hills. Over the years they have taken great care of Mom. Also a thank you to HSHS St. Joseph's Hospice for their care.
