     Richard Thomas Nelson “Rick”, 70, of Chetek passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2017 surrounded by his family.

     Rick was born on November 26, 1946 in the town of Big Bend to Austin and Mary (Silvernail) Nelson. He attended Chetek High School where he graduated in 1965. He then enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served in the 1st Infantry “Big Red 1” in Vietnam until 1969. Upon returning home he married Jennifer Kucharski on May 30, 1970 in Chetek, WI.     During his working years as a Machinist he worked at Johnson Plastic, Uniroyal Tire Company, and Nelson Filter.

     Rick enjoyed spending time with his wife and his dog Gracie Mae, his children and especially his grandchildren and grand “dogs”. He loved being outdoors, on his pontoon fishing, or camping and 4-wheeling. Rick was actively involved as Vice President of the Chetek Area Museum. He was an avid Badgers and Packers fan.

     Rick is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jennifer Nelson; son, Rodney Nelson of Eau Claire; daughter Theresa (Chris) Hmielewski of Bloomer; son Dale (Lea) Nelson of Tilden; grandchildren Morgan, Chase, Jaden, Arizona, Ashton and Ella; step-sister Lynn (Dennis) Trowbridge of Rockford, IL; step-brother Lee Nelson of Kansas City, MO; Uncle Nick (Linda) Nelson; and many nieces and nephews.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents Austin and Mary; step-mother Nona Nelson; brothers George and Les Nelson.

     A celebration of Rick’s life will be held on Saturday, November 4th from 1-4pm at the Chetek Community Center in Chetek. Wear your favorite sports team gear to honor Rick’s love of sports.
