Thomas "Tom" Johnson, age 79, of Eau Claire passed away on Monday, September 18, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health System - Eau Claire.

Tom was born on March 12, 1938 to the late Jacob and Hazel (Vefald) Johnson in Eau Claire. Following graduation from Eau Claire High School, he joined the U.S. Navy proudly serving our country as a medic. On June 10, 1961 he married Sandra Fletty in Eau Claire. He worked with Presto before joining Uniroyal. After the plant closed, Tom worked for various companies before retiring at age 62.

Tom was an avid sports enthusiast earning a Hat Trick in Darts, a hole-in-one in Golf, was a proud single share-holder of the Packers, and loved watching the Brewers and Badgers as well. Tom and Sandy enjoyed camping taking the motorhome to various resorts and in later years, they were able to spend 18 years at Wildwood Resort in Chetek. As a grandfather, he loved being involved in the lives of his grandchildren and enjoyed cheering them on at their sporting events.

He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 305 - serving on the Honor Squad, a STEP volunteer at Mayo Clinic Health System -Eau Claire; and was a member and served as a past president of Eagles Club 2213.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandy; children, Deb Johnson, Jeff Johnson, and Kari (Andy) Reiter; grandchildren, Brittany and AJ Reiter, Kayla Johnson, and Jazmine and Jennah Johnson; sister, Mary Howard; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dick and Jerry Johnson; and sisters, Millie Baker and Bev Olson.

The family would like to thank Dr. Eyad Al-Hattab, the nurses and staff of the Cancer Center at Mayo Clinic Health System-Eau Claire for their wonderful care of Dad.

Service

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Hope Lutheran Church (corner of Starr Avenue and Eddy Lane) in Eau Claire with Reverend Rick Lund officiating

Visitation: 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home and also one hour prior to service at church

Interment: Lutheran Cemetery, Eau Claire, Wisconsin
