Roger C. Lentz

Roger C. Lentz

September 8, 2017

Roger C. Lentz, 89, of Eau Claire, was called Home on September 8 by our Heavenly Father to spend eternity with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He believed in the promise found in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Roger was born on December 28, 1927, in Danville Township, Blue Earth County, Minnesota, to Clarence and Meta (Kain) Lentz. He graduated from Minnesota Lake High School in 1946 and served two years with the U.S. Army in the Korean War.  On January 23, 1955, he married Mary Lou Nelson. The Lord blessed their marriage with four children, who were raised on the Lentz family farm south of Mankato, Minnesota. Roger farmed for many years and also worked for the Minnesota State Highway Department before moving to Eau Claire in 1969, where he worked tirelessly as caretaker of Immanuel Lutheran High School and College for 29 years. In his retirement years he enjoyed attending the grandchildren’s school activities and Immanuel Lutheran sporting events, visiting with relatives and friends, the Tuesday morning Coffee Klatsch, Blugold basketball games, gardening, working  at a greenhouse each spring, the Minnesota State Fair, and fishing with family in northern Minnesota.

Roger will be greatly missed by son Stephen (Susan) of Eau Claire; daughter Joyce (Gordon) Stratton of Elk Mound; daughter Julie of Eau Claire; son John (Paula) of Eau Claire; sister Margaret Schwarz of Waseca, MN; sister Dorothy (Willard) Kirchof of New Ulm, MN; grandchildren Benjamin (Michelle) Stratton and their children Tatum, Jack, Lucy, Stella, Harrison, and Grant of Mankato, MN; Rebecca (Eric) Mink of Pellston, MI; Christopher Stratton of Eau Claire; Joshua (Miranda) Stratton and their daughter MacKenzie of Eau Claire; Amanda (Dan) Sullivan and their son Gideon of Eau Claire; Jarrod (Joelle) Lentz and their daughter Zoey of Phoenix, AZ;  and Christa Lentz of Eau Claire; a sister- and brother-in-law, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, especially from his church family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, parents, grandparents, sister Louisa, and three brothers-in-law.

A service celebrating Roger’s victory over sin and death, thanks to our Savior Jesus’ sinless life, death, and resurrection, will be at noon on Thursday, September 14, at Messiah Lutheran Church on N. Hastings Way in Eau Claire. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday at Hulke Family Funeral Home on Rudolph Road.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated for student aid at Immanuel Lutheran High School.

I Thessalonians 4: 13-14, 18: “But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.  For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.  Therefore, comfort one another with these words.”
