John Charles “Jack” Dixon passed away peacefully on August 1, 2017 at The Classic at Hillcrest Greens in Altoona. 

Jack was born in Chicago on July 21, 1931, the son of Charles and Deween (Krause) Dixon.  Jack is preceded in death by his first wife Barbara (1989) and is survived by his wife Mary Carol Dixon, a sister Barbara Bartelman and her husband Herbert, a daughter Anne Dixon of Alexandria, VA (James), a son John of Glendale, WI, his wife Debbie and their children, Matthew and Alec Dixon, a stepdaughter Amy Stacy of Phoenix, AZ (Simon), a stepson Ted Stacy and his children Tally and Campbell of Andover, MN.

Jack earned his PhD in entomology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1962. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service in North Carolina and Georgia for several years. He and his family moved to Eau Claire from Chicago in 1968, where he taught biology at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire for over 20 years. He was an avid bird watcher and cyclist, and he loved to grill outdoors with his family.  He and Mary enjoyed many adventures traveling around the world and spending time at the family cottage on the Chain of Lakes in Waupaca, WI. 

Memorial service will take place at 11 am on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1314 E. Lexington Blvd., Eau Claire, WI 54701 with Pastor Peter Bredlau officiating. Memorial visitation will take place at the church Saturday morning from 9:30 am until the time of the service.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Jack’s name to the Nature Conservancy, The Alzheimer’s Research Foundation, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Memorial visitation will take place Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Eau Claire from 9:30 am until the time of service.
