William (Bill) Freeman, age 76 of Rice Lake, passed away on Tuesday, January 10th, 2017 at home.

William was born on January 28th, 1940 in Eau Claire, WI to Clifford and June Freeman.  Bill grew up with his parents in Birchwood WI and graduated from high school from there.  He attended UW River Falls for several years before signing a baseball contract with the Kansas City Athletics and played for 1 year in the Minor league before joining the Wisconsin National Guard.  Bill was deployed with the Rice Lake unit to Fort Lewis in Washington.  He was honorably discharged and returned to Rice Lake in 1962.

In 1964, he began a career with the Rice Lake police department and then the Barron County Sherriff department where he retired after 32 years in Law Enforcement.  Bill married Diana Wiles on January 21, 1967 and together they had two children.   

William is survived by his daughter Michelle (Brian) Rieper of Chippewa Falls and his son Michael Freeman of Barron; five grandchildren: Janelle, Alyssa, Morgan, Taylor & Dawson. 

He was preceded in death by his wife Diana; parents Clifford and June Freeman and one brother James Freeman. 

A Celebration of William's Life will be held at noon on Friday, January 20th, 2017 at Barron Foursquare Church, 916 E. Division Ave. Barron with pastor Chad Halverson officiating.   A memorial gathering will be held from 11 a.m. until noon at the church.
