Lt. Col Dorothy (Goetz) Huggins age 90 passed away December 14, 2016 at the Oakwood Villa Nursing Home in Altoona, WI. Dorothy lived at Memory Care at the Classic in Altoona prior. 

Dorothy was born April 22, 1926 in Eau Claire, WI to Edwin and Melvina (Bushendorf) Goetz. She married Jesse T. Huggins on December 11, 1959 in Colorado Springs. Co.

Dorothy graduated from Elk Mound High School, in 1947 graduated from Luther Hospital School of Nursing In Eau Claire, worked for three years for Dr. C.H. Falstad and Dr. Regner.

Dorothy joined the USAF, was a flight nurse in England, Germany, Japan and France. She was at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, she was the second nurse assigned at the Academy in 1958, worked eight years in Hospice and help set up the first Hospice House in the spring’s area. Received Flight Nurse Wings and Air Force reserve Nurse of the year award in 1973.

Member of the American Nurse Assoc. in Colorado and Wis. Luther Hospital Nurse Alumni Association, Retired AF Nurse Society, retired from Reserve duty in 1986 as at Lt. Col. She was active in the Methodist Church activities Stephan Minister Leader, and a Girl Scout Leader

Dorothy and Jesse spent their winters in Arizona and Texas and summers in WI.

Dorothy is survived by her sons Ronald(Debbie) of Eau Claire, step-sons Bill Huggins of Eau Claire and David(Judy) of Alburquerque , Daughters Barbara Stang of Delvan, Wi and Joan(Ed Nash) of Littleton, Co. Sisters Marian (LaVerne) Soppeland of Eau Claire, Arlene (Robert) Easterson of Oshkosh, Brothers Donald Goetz of Colfax, Harold (Elaine) Goetz of Oceanside, Ca. John (Bev) Goetz of Eau Claire, Sister-in-law Violet Goetz of  Eau Claire, Six grandchildren and Nine Great Grandchildren,  and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jesse, her brother Bud, parents and many Aunts and Uncles.

Memorial may be given in Dorothy’s name to Lake St. United Meth. Church 337 Lake St. Eau Claire, WI or Mayo Clinic Health Systems, Health and Hospice or the donor’s choice.

Private services will be held in the spring at the Evergreen Cemetery, Elk Mound, WI.
