Mae Ardys Pulkrabek, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2016.

She was born Mae A. Gruett on May 29, 1935 in Hinckley, Minnesota.  To family and close friends, she was better known as Moots.  Mae married Duane F. Pulkrabek on September 19, 1954 in Hinckley, MN.   Mae is survived by her sister Loretta, brothers Arden and Myron and four children:  Jerri (Scott) Wall, David (Carol), James (Barbara), and Kevin (Marie).  She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

After marrying Duane, Mae traveled with him to Japan while he served in the US Army and then to Minneapolis, MN while Duane attended the University of Minnesota.  It was during these years that their four children were born.  Following Duane’s graduation, the family moved to Eau Claire, where Mae, after raising their children to school age, began her career in banking.  She worked for the same bank for many years while it changed names from American National to First Interstate to Norwest and finally to Wells Fargo from which she retired.

Mae is preceded in death by only two months of her husband of 62 years Duane, parents Otto and Emma Gruett, sisters Ethel and Ellen and brothers Leo, Alvin, Arnie, and Glenn.

The family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice and the staff at Heritage Court for their excellent care.

A memorial service will take place at 12:00 PM on Monday January 9, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church 1314 E. Lexington Blvd, Eau Claire, WI 54701 with Pastor Peter Bredlau officiating.  Visitation will take place at the church on Monday, January 9, 2017 from 11:00 AM until the time of service.  Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Northern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI.

Memorial visitation will take place at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1314 E. Lexington Blvd., Eau Claire, WI 54701 on Monday, January 9, 2017 from 11 am until the time of service.
