Helen E. Dooley

July 31, 2016

Helen E. Dooley, known as Elaine to her family and friends, died Sunday, July 31 2016 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire following a heart attack.

Elaine came into this world June 18, 1943 the night of a flood, when her parents had a difficult time reaching the midwife’s home. Elaine was raised on a small farm along highway 40. Elaine was one of ten children so she learned at an early age to take care of babies and keep house. Elaine graduated from Bruce High School in 1961. Elaine then traveled to Chicago to be a mother’s helper where she met her future husband, Charles Dooley, who owned and managed a Mobile Filling Station. Elaine would push the stroller through the gas station, setting off a service bell so Charles would come out to talk to her. In the parking lot of the Mobile Filling Station Charles took Elaine under his wing and they became soul mates.

Charles and Elaine were married and settled in the Chippewa Valley to raise their family. Their love resulted in five children; Charles, Jeffrey “Steve”, Martha, Michael and Tracey. Charles and Elaine’s loving family grew to include six grandchildren; Ashtin, Britney, Christopher, Dylan, Tristin, Devan and four great grandchildren.

Elaine worked many jobs throughout her life, ending her career at Phillips Plastics in Eau Claire, but she was most proud of her craft being a domestic engineer, which in her words was “raising children while keeping a neat, clean, well-organized home, doing the cooking, dishwashing, laundress, seamstress, nurse, baker, diplomat, gardener, carpenter, electrician, plumber, mechanic, interior decorator, book keeper, manager and chauffer”.

Elaine could always be found, coffee cup in hand, sitting around her kitchen table or sitting out by her pond and flower gardens watching the hummingbirds. Elaine lived her life caring for and putting others ahead of herself, facing the challenges of life head on, including her three battles with lung cancer over the last six years.

Elaine is survived by her three sons; Chuck (Donna), Steve (Judy) and Mike, her two daughters; Marty (David) and Tracey (Tonia), her brother; Jeffery and sisters, Thelma, Margaret, Beverley, Charlotte, Shelley and Sylvia and in-laws; Colleen and John and many loving relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her soulmate, Charles, parents Marcia and Clarence “Buck” Clausen and brothers; Gene and Edward “John” and in-laws; Mary, Warren, and Jerry.
