Charles R. Vance

August 2, 2015

Charles "Chuck" R. Vance, age 69, of Eau Claire passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Health System - Eau Claire.

Chuck was born on July 3, 1946 to the late James A. and Julia (Gilbertson) Vance in Eau Claire. He grew up in Jim Falls and Glenwood City where he graduated in 1964 from Glenwood City High School; later attending UW-Eau Claire. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After returning from Vietnam, he worked for Presto Industries and then sold Life Insurance for 20 years. Later on, he pursued a career in construction.

Chuck enjoyed fishing and would escape Up North whenever he could. He also had the unique hobby of breeding, showing and racing pigeons for more than 45 years…his other children. A friend recently described Chuck as "an encyclopedia of birds."

One of Chuck's proudest accomplishments was being a dad. His three kids were never far from his thoughts. As his kids were growing up, he loved to give them whisker rubs and bear hugs. Since becoming a grandpa, he treasured spending time with his granddaughters - or as he liked to call them "his little peanuts." He was so happy to learn recently he would have a new grandson and hoped he would be born on his dad's birthday in November.

Left to remember Chuck are his daughters, Lisa (Matt Coss) Vance Coss and Heather (Ryan Schmidt) Vance; granddaughters, Addison and Alli Schmidt; close family friend, Florence Iverson; and many extended family and friends.

Chuck was preceded in death by his son, Todd; grandson, Matthew Coss; and brother, James.
