Raymond Albert “Ray” Ziehme, 91, of 3325 Birch Street, Eau Claire, WI passed away suddenly on Thursday March 26, 2015 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.

Ray was born on September 3, 1923 in Hatchville, Dunn County, WI to Albert and Lillian (Hurtgen) Ziehme. He graduated from Elmwood high school in 1943. Ray served in the army during World War II from 1943 to 1946, spending 9 months of his enlistment in Hawaii. After his return he attended technical school, studying bookkeeping. He worked at National Presto Industries for 38 years retiring in 1986 as the mailroom supervisor. It was at Presto that he met his future wife Evangeline Smith. They were married on February 2, 1952.

Ray was very supportive of local sports including the start of Little League in Eau Claire in 1955. He went on to coach his sons in baseball for many years. He was a long standing active member of the Men’s group at Lake Street United Methodist Church and was involved in starting the outdoor church at the Stardusk Drive-In Theater.

In his spare time he loved gardening, fishing on the pontoon with his family, and watching the grandkids play sports. He was a fan of the Milwaukee Brewers, Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers, watching or listening to any game he could find on TV or the radio. He played in the church dartball league and was a member of the VFW.

He is survived by sons Donald (Becky Koth) of Weyerhaeuser, Albert (Paula) of Eau Claire, Richard (Katie) of Williamson, GA, and daughter Debra (Mark) Peterson of Lake Hallie, brother Lawrence (Deyon) Ziehme of Eau Claire, special friend Joyce Mortt of Eau Claire, 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Evangeline, his parents, brothers Lyle and Dale, and sister Irene Fritz.

Funeral Services will take place at 11 am on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Lake Street United Methodist Church, 337 Lake St, Eau Claire, WI 54703. Pastor Graham N. West will officiate. Burial with military honors rendered by American Legion Post #53 will take place immediately following the service in Rest Haven Cemetery in Town of Washington. Visitation will take place at Fuller Speckien Hulke Funeral Home on Friday, April 3, 2015 from 4-7 pm and at the church Saturday morning from 10 am until the time of service. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Raymond's name to Lake Street United Methodist Church or the National Parkinson Foundation.

Visitation will take place at Fuller Speckien Hulke Funeral Home Friday, April 3, 2015 from 4-7 pm and at the church Saturday morning from 10 am until the time of service.
