Larry J. Iehl passed away peacefully on May 31 under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice with his loving family by his side after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.

He was born April 3, 1943 the 4th son of Leslie and Wilma (Theisen) Iehl of Cadott. He attended St. Joseph’s grade school and Cadott High School, graduating in 1961.

He served in the United States Army, was employed at American Motors, Presto, and the Chippewa school system. In 1978 he bought Albertville Tavern and ran it proudly for 10+ years, putting it “on the map” with hamburgers and smelt fries and later his well-known broasted chicken, Friday night fish fries, Prime Rib, and BBQ ribs. After selling he was employed at Cray Research, X-Cel Energy and after retirement worked part-time for the Gold Cross Courier Service.

He was President of Chippewa Falls Pure Water Days, President of Chippewa County Tavern League, and Chairman of Chippewa County UCP Walk-A-thon of Eau Claire

In 1992 he took a trip to Las Vegas and married Mary A. Michels, his wife of 21 years.

He is survived by his wife Mary, brother Ron (Pat Novotny), 3 step-daughters Karen Michels (John Taylor), Sharon (Jon) Berg and Jeannie (Mark) Petska, 4 step-grandchildren Travis, Katie, Elizabeth and Sarah sister in Law Delores (Marvin) Rothbauer, brother-in-law Ken Lang, nieces and nephews, family pets and his backyard critters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Wilma Iehl, mother and father-in-law Albert and Margaret Liedl, brothers Leslie Jr, and wife Mary Lou, Wayne, sisters-in-law Rose Anderson and Jeanie Lang.

He enjoyed family gatherings, gardening, cooking, grilling, travel and was an avid sports fan cheering on the Badgers, Packers, and Chicago Cubs

Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Chapel of the Resurrection  in Chippewa Manor, Chippewa Falls, with Rev. Robert Hoekstra officiating the service.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the chapel.  Burial with full military honors rendered by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council will immediately follow the service at Forest Hill Cemetery in Chippewa Falls.

A Celebration of Larry’s life will be held immediately following the burial service at Horizons Restaurant in Tilden.
