Larry Farmer

Larry Farmer

November 12, 2011

Larry T. Farmer, 62, of Eau Claire, went to be with his Lord and Savior quietly an hour before dawn on Saturday, November 12, 2011, at his home with his loving family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer.

Larry was born on June 5, 1949, a son to Alvin and Mabel (Brandsness) Farmer.  He graduated from North High School, Class of 1967.  After graduation, he was employed at Presto, Industries.  In 1968, Larry joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, SD and Guam.  He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1972.

High school sweethearts, Larry and Cathy Goodenough, joined hands in marriage on May 5, 1973.  This union was blessed with two children, Andrew in 1975 and Carey in 1978.

Larry was employed at Uniroyal for 19 years, and then worked for Berry Plastics for 19 years.  He was a lifelong member of Ascension Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed.

Larry had an amazing sense of humor that he kept, along with his upbeat attitude, even to the day of his passing.  He will be remembered for his love of family, fishing and hunting.  He followed the family tradition of hunting with “The Farmer Boys”, which involved his brother, son, and nephews.  He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, referring to his team as “The Pack”.  Larry took fishing as a science and was often found creating logs and keeping track of statistics, and lived by the saying, “A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work!”  He was passionate about worker’s rights and politics, and was an active member of United Steel Workers Union, Local 460, serving most recently as vice president.  He was a very hard worker, with an exceptional work ethic that he carried through with every task that approached him.  He had a vast wealth of knowledge in history and geography, and was an avid reader and researcher.

Larry is survived by his wife Cathy of Eau Claire; his son, Andrew (Kelly) of Elkhart, IN; his daughter Carey (Ryan) Chrouser of Eau Claire; grandchildren, Keagan, Kyler, Lexi and Isiah; his mother, Mabel Farmer of Eau Claire; brothers, Allyn (Carol) Farmer of Scottsdale, AZ and Darryll (Karen) Farmer of Eau Claire; his aunt, Margaret (Lincoln) Winger of Wabasha, MN; brothers-in-law, Rick (Barb) Goodenough of New Auburn and Rand (Marlene) Goodenough of Eau Claire; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were dear to him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin and his brother, Gerald.

Funeral Services for Larry will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 16, 2011, at Concordia Lutheran Church, with Pastor Paul Sullivan from Ascension Lutheran Church officiating.  Family and friends are invited for visitation on Tuesday, November 15, 2011, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave., Eau Claire, and also one hour prior to the service at church on Wednesday.  Inurnment with Military Rites performed by VFW Post #305 will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be directed to “family wishes”.
