Dennis S Schlosser

February 27, 2008

Dennis S. Schlosser, age 93, died peacefully February 27, 2008, at Red Cedar Medical Center, surrounded by his family.

Born in Eau Galle, WI, Dennis was the oldest of ten children of William G. and Ella (Denning) Schlosser. He attended Eau Galle Grade School, then graduated from Durand High School.

Dennis spent his early adult life farming and logging for his father. In 1937 he bought his own farm, and married Beulah King on June 15 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Plum City, WI. He and Beulah had nine children together, one dying in infancy. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary, living on the same farm near Eau Galle all 70 years. They moved to Autumn Village Assisted Living in Menomonie, WI, December 2007.

In 1952, Dennis was a founding partner in a John Deere dealership which has grown into MDMA Equipment with five locations.

During that time, Dennis served as president of the Wisconsin Power Equipment Retailers Association and as president of his John Deere dealerships. He was chairman of Eau Galle Township for 18 years and was a member of the Dunn County Board for 23 years, serving as Finance Chairman. He was a member of the building committee for the Dunn County courthouse and the Durand hospital.

He was a lifelong member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Eau Galle. He was a Third Degree and a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus.

Dennis and Beulah frequently reminisced about their three world-wide tours that they made with WCCO radio personalities, Howard Vikin and Randy Merrimen. Dennis became a strong believer in traveling as a great form of education and took many family trips.

During his retirement years, he and Beulah enjoyed traveling to the Ozarks, Florida, and California, with stopovers to see children and grandchildren. Dennis enjoyed mowing his 5-acre lawn into his 90’s. He also enjoyed the Schlosser family cabin in Hayward as well as fishing, golfing, bowling, dancing, and going for walks.

Dennis’ great wit and humor will especially be missed by family and friends, along with his smile and appreciation for nature.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Beulah, one sister, Sister Blanche Marie, FSPA of LaCrosse, eight children: Patricia (Mike) Kittilstad, Chatham, Ill; Denise (Sig) Weiss, Durand, WI; Donna (Doug) Weber, Menomonie, WI; Gene (Mary) Schlosser, Menomonie, WI; Tom (Sherry) Schlosser, Eau Galle, WI; Sue (Jerry) Lolwing, Platteville, WI; Julie (Dan) Bower, Durand, WI; Peter (Pat) Schlosser, Menomonie, WI; 31 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
